Zen Mommy Minute: Connectedness is VITAL for Kids

Check out this research study from the Journal of the American Medical Association that I read about in the book “The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness” by Edward Hallowell, MD. It proves what I know in my heart of hearts… that  a sense of connectedness is the most vital factor in ensuring our kids are protected from negative outcomes. When kids felt connected at home and school they were protected from:

  • Violent behavior
  • Extreme Emotional distress
  • Suicide attempts
  • Drug abuse
  • Early sexual activity
  • Listen to the video above for more interesting details about this awesome research study. For tips on creating this sense of connectedness for and with your kids, I highly recommend the book I mentioned above as well. In the mean time, let’s keep sharing about connecting with our kids every week. Let’s let them know we love them; that they matter to us; that they are important to us in ways great and small. Smiles.

What a wonderful commentary on such vital research. You did a marvelous job, Suzanne. Once again, what you said applies to everyone in addition to children.
