Nothing better than cuddling with your child and reading. We did almost every night until my kids became tween and teenagers. My 11 year old still enjoys me reading to him and he likes when I read him material that is challenging. Its good quality time and an important habit and routine for our children!

My favorite subject - books! It even beats out chocolate if you can believe that. My sons and I share books now that they are older - that will be the subject of a future blog so be on the lookout. My family has a history of identifying "family authors" - writers who can appeal to both kids and adults or perhaps they write books aimed at adults and other books aimed at kids. Mark Twain is one and our newest addition is Ridley Pearson (his detective series is great for young adults and adults and his books with co-author Dave Barry are great for kids). My kids won't physically cuddle much - if at all - but when we share books we share quiet time and conversation. Closeness comes more easily when it happens with a good book.
