How to Write A Dossier

Dossier ~ file containing detailed records on a particular person or subject.

You may have heard rumblings of something new afoot in the lives of Zen Mommy and Practical Mommy. A few heartfelt conversations regarding Bad Mother has turned into a wild ride down the rabbit hole to Looking Glass Lane. We are all about connection here on My Mommy Manual, so it’s no surprise to have found kindred spirits in Twitterville. We’ve linked arms with three other influential mamas. You can read their dossiers here (@MissIve, @FleurdeLeigh, @ModernSingleMom, @ZenMommy).

You want one too, don’t you? You’ll soon realize that life on the lane is rather impulsive, often requires one deep breath and gallons and gallons of laughs.

You’re not alone, either! Read the dossiers flooding in on our Facebook page. If you don’t have your own site/blog, just add yours to the Discussion page.

How to Find Your Inner Alice

by ZenMommy

Dossier ~ file containing detailed records on a particular person or subject.

While our kids played every fantastical game imaginable in my back yard, Practical Mommy and I sat laptop by laptop giggling and dreaming up our dossiers. As we watched our kids be their creative, joyful, blessedly childish selves out my kitchen window, we shared our own childish adventure.

Looking within we found our deepest-truest-purest-girlyest selves and we wrote them down. We read them aloud, giggled, tweaked them a bit and then giggled some more. With all this silliness going on, you may be surprised to read that (pardon my expression) the FUN-EST part of writing my dossier was the connection I experienced to myself. That’s right, a deeper connection to me, myself and I.

I hope you too will jump down the rabbit hole and write your very own dossier! I hope this experience brings you ever closer to your true self…your inner-Alice you might say. (I hear shes a real hoot!)

Join me and the girls of Looking Glass Lane ( @MissIve, @FleurdeLeigh, @ModernSingleMom and of course @RiaSharon) and let YOUR Alice in Wonderland Adventure begin!

Suzanne Tucker : aka Zen Mommy on My Mommy Manual/Twitter and TerraFermaEsoteric in the House on Looking Glass Lane.

Looking Glass Powers:
Ability to know a good friend will be calling…and to call them a minute before they do.
Ability to breathe through anything life may bring.
Ability to inspire from a deep belief in the one-ness that we are!
Ability to giggle, snort and occasionally laugh so hard milk comes out her nose.

Dress-up Closet:
Teva’s; enough bohemian shirts, dresses and skirts to make even Goldie Hawn jealous; Banana Republic extra long jeans; Hobie sunglasses; dangly earrings; and a pair of high (while still dance-able) heels for when the urge to glam up strikes.

Polished power Ann Taylor suit, Enzo Angiolini slides, laser pointer and baby doll (for teaching infant massage).

Go-To Gadget:
Flip Camera, i-pod, yoga mat, leather bound journal, Camelback waterbottle, handheld GPS

Red-red wine you make me feel so fine.

Magic Potion:
Wheat grass shot; mango smoothie; mocha latte (extra hot no whip)…and not all at once.

Battery Recharge Hub (other than Looking Glass Lane, of course)
Hot bath with sea salts and essential oils and/or 3 minutes of deep breathing. Not above locking self in the bathroom to create the time/space for either.

Bratty Spoilers:
10 day yoga retreat anywhere; three weeks with my sweetie on Santorini Island in Greece.

Owner’s Manual:
Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman

Nadi Sodhana Pranayama (alternate nostril yoga breathing).

Cruelty of any kind

Secret Ambition:
To eat my way through every country in the world.

Now write your own…take my hand…and we’ll jump down the rabbit hole together.

  1. Look at you in Rome!
Sei una bella regazza, sai!? 😉

I can’t wait to see your “Big smile and Blindingly white teeth” in person.

I think the Looking Glass Girls should plan an adventure to Italy. What do you say?

Riding vespas and smiling so big our cheeks hurt, journaling with brand new leather journals from Florence of course, trips to the beach where we eat gelato till sunset and then open a fantastic bottle of red table wine.

    Sound good?

I can’t wait for all the adventures to come. What an amazing community of women we are building!

  2. “The ability to share ones flaws without apology.” Instantly struck me…instantly…
I like it…teach me! Im going to add that to my “missions” list! Or bucket list…any list that is pushing me to be a better person! You inspire me…alot actually. This is the first comment from me but not the first time Ive read your story…huge fan actually:) Im honored to be a part of this journey…with the amazing women (like yourself) og!

  3. @misscriss0830 I’ve been thinking about your comment all day. How does one get to that point?! I think it does have something to do with being fearless… not being without fear, mind you, but rather looking fear straight in the eye and past it. If you do that once (or often)… to varying degrees of I’m-vomiting-because-I’m-so-f’ing-scared… then the fear of public ridicule/judgment becomes… insignificant.

The cool thing is that once you past self-editing you realize that, as @johnhaydon said to me yesterday, “Perfect is boring.” So I share my flaws and instead of condemnation, most of the time I hear, “That’s ME!”

Or, maybe I’m just bipolar and prone to oversharing (hat tip to @ayeletw)

  5. Seriously?!!! Video comments?! Dude, you just went from “Sexy Tech” to “Sensationally Sexy Tech.”
Possibly “Orgasmic Tech” if you can teach me to play, too!

I LOVE this picture of you, Lovely Ria. It suits you.

Thinking of our first phone chat ever and grinning big. Crazy how these things ‘happen,’ yes?

I love knowing you. You and your incredibly apt street-sign-reading powers and marathon, non-potty-break-taking marathon work sessions.

Will be checking out the Hanky Panky’s. If Sexy Tech says they’re sexy, they’re sexy.

Heading to Google Riffly. Inspired by you, as always.

  6. So um, @MissIve… I’m expecting a VIDEO COMMENT from YOU! 😀

  7. Zen Mommy says:

here’s Zen Mommy’s :p hope to see some of our readers linking to theirs or posting them here. (could even read it and record with our cool new audio feature.) too fun.

  8. My goodness, I am totally inspired.

  9. Wow, loving this dossier…Ability to share one’s flaws without apology.. Those are pretty incredible words.. Feeling very inspired..I am learning to love myself again and not judge!. so thank you and @zenmommy for that… Ria are you feeling my love?
