How to Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week

wbwDid you know this week is World Breastfeeding Week? (August 1-7)

This year’s theme is the Virtual Breastfeeding Shield Event Pledge. What does that mean? It celebrates that “Breastfeeding is a shield that protects infants in an emergency.” Check out the world map that illustrates the support for the virtual breasfeeding event!

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) was originally know as the World Alliance For Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and was founded in 1991. An entire week to commemorate the Innocenti Declaration was first celebrated in 1992 and has been celebrated every August 1-7 and is celebrated in 120 countries around the world. The Innocenti Declaration supports, protects, and promotes breastfeeding and is now supported by UNICEF, WHO and FAO.

WBW is a great time to share YOUR breastfeeding experience. Why did you decided to breastfeed? How long did you breastfeed? How did you feel? It’s YOUR time to share.

Embrace your power as a women and a mother and encourage others to do the same.
